Hannover; like nowhere else!

Easy-going, tolerant, laid-back: these are possibly the best words to describe the way of life in Hannover.

The town centre has all the flair of a big city, and the pedestrian precinct is a true paradise for anyone keen on shopping. In the old part of the town you can stroll along medieval alleyways, relax on the banks of the Leine or stop off at one of the many cafés. The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen are the epitome of garden design. Buzzing with life, the different parts of the city each have a charm of their own. Full of colour and movement, the iconic district of Linden is currently the hip place to be.

Whether students, academics or eccentric types: for everyone here the street is like a second home and bars, cafés, kiosks and restaurants can be found on every corner. The atmosphere in adjacent Nordstadt, where Hanover's Leibniz University, is based is calmer, tolerant and peaceful. Here you may well see a punk carrying an old lady's shopping home for her. The district of List is rather more chic. Seated amidst magnificent art nouveau buildings, here people are often to be found be enjoying a good glass of wine.

Garden pleasures

A must see in Hannover are the Royal Gardens in Herrenhausen, an internationally famous ensemble of garden arts and culture, that ranks among the most important historical gardens in Europe.

Lake Maschsee

A maritime paradise right in the city centre! The Maschee offers a recreational area in the heart of the city, both on water and all around: for yachting, canoeing and pedal boating; for joggers, skaters and strollers. Or just relax with a cold drink in one of the idyllic beer gardens around.

On the right is the Ernst August Galerie; down the steps, one floor below ground level, is the Niki de Saint Phalle Promenade with Bahnhofstrasse above it - all inviting places for the shopper, the stroller and the gourmet. And if you go on straight ahead, you will come to Kröpcke.

No, it’s not a district of Hannover ...

… on the contrary, Hannover is an appendage of Linden, everybody in Linden knows that. To the right and left of Limmerstrasse and around the Market Place there is an abundance of teeming, colourful life. Students, university lecturers, eccentrics, people for whom life is an art form, they all practically live on the on streets. This is a district to go out and to party in!
