Three great places to go skiing in France on your gap year

Skiing is of course enjoyed by loads of different types of people. Some like to go due to the romantic atmosphere that the climate can bring; others like to go for the livelier side of the activity, and some love it but like to keep costs down.

France is a country that offers many people the opportunity to have a ski holiday the way they want it, and here are a few resorts that offer: a cheap place to do it, some romantic isolation or somewhere to party.

Mazot les Tines, Chamonix, France - Romance

Sometimes you need to have sometime by yourself and a loved one, so if you have ventured out on a gap year with your partner then why not consider Mazot les Tines. At around £141 a night, it isn't dirt cheap, but it is worth it for what you get: a secluded place to relax and, of course, ski. You get a balcony where you can enjoy a nice hot drink (we encourage layering up before you do this), a lovely rustic looking kitchen where you can cook up a nice casserole and an amazing garden with the Mont Blanc Mountains in view.

Val d'Isere and Tignes - Party Town

If you like to party, then these two towns in the Espace Kitty area of Tarentaise Valley is probably a good place to set your sights on. Its name can be translated as 'the most beautiful skiing area of the world', and sure there are 300 kilometers of pistes (including 44km of cross country skiing), but it is also a vibrant place to blow off some steam after a hard day of hitting the slopes.

For food lovers one can find fairly cheap as well as the more pricier restaurants - perfect for those whatever the budget. Post-dinner activity, though, is what people go for. For those looking for a larger plain to maraud, Val d'Isere  is the bigger of the two towns, and has a plethora of clubs to get moving in. Late night clubs include MBC,

Members Bar & Club and Dick’s Tea Bar, where you can party till the early hours. But that's not to take away from Tignes, a place that holds its own if you're looking for fun and frolics.

Moreover, if you're one of those who likes to party down whilst the sun still shines, the Apres Resort in Val d'Isere holds daytime parties, where you can get down in your salopettes if you so wish.

Chamonix Centre, Chamonix, France - On a Budget

Situated in the centre of Chamonix, the Chamonix Centre apartment is an absolute bargain at £59 a day in the quieter months like November and beds six people. As well as a great view of the Mont Blac Mountains, you are bang in the middle of the town, so you're never far away from any of the action. Further still, bus stops that take you to the slopes are a short stroll away, where you get going on the pistes.
