Where will your Swansea University degree take you?

At Swansea University we believe that studying, working or volunteering abroad during your degree can transform your university experience and be rewarding, personally and professionally.

That’s why we aim to offer all of our undergraduates the chance to spend time overseas with one of our 150 partner universities, in countries such as New Zealand, Switzerland and South Korea.

How it works

At Swansea University, if you enrol on a four-year degree scheme, which includes a year abroad, you can study at a partner university in your third year. Depending on your course, you may be able to spend this year completing an international work placement or teaching assistantship.

What if a year is too long for me?

For those looking for an international experience that’s shorter in duration, a number of our degree schemes offer the option of spending a semester either studying or working abroad.

That gap year feeling every summer

Our summer internships, volunteering and cultural and study programmes in countries such as China, Japan, the USA, Zambia, Fiji and countries throughout Europe could give you the perfect taste of another culture.

How will it help my career?

Employers are seriously impressed with students with international experience. They know it takes initiative and great organisational skills to study and work in a different country, they recognise that spending time abroad builds confidence, self-awareness and maturity and develops a global perspective and intercultural awareness that they would welcome in their organisation.

What about financial help?

If you’re thinking about how your time abroad will be financed, don’t worry! We have a range of bursaries available to support students who choose to go abroad. Swansea University’s dedicated Go Global team will work with you to guide you through the application process and award any relevant funding.
