Argentina’s capital city, Buenos Aires, is a bustling city packed with energy and a vibrant atmosphere. For travellers planning a trip to Buenos Aires, there is no shortage of things to do, from culture to sport to shopping. Here, TripAdvisor gives us a round-up of the top 10 Buenos Aires attractions, according to the TripAdvisor community of reviewers*:

1. Teatro Colon

Located in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, this theatre turned 100 years old in 2008 and is known for its acoustics and architecture. The theatre recently underwent a major renovation and re-opened in May 2010. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “A must for anyone coming to Buenos Aires. This is the pride of the city and a remarkable testament to the history of the country.”

2. We Are Tango

The Tango originated in Argentina and We Are Tango offers visitors the chance to not only watch the professionals while enjoying a meal, but also learn the Tango themselves. It all takes place in an intimate environment and in small groups to allow visitors to get the best experience possible. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Facundo and his team at We Are Tango delivered a truly memorable dining and dancing experience. The food, drinks, show and dance lesson were great.”

3. Buenos Aires Futbol Amigos

This football club is open to anyone and is a good place to meet other travelers in Buenos Aires. The Buenos Aires Futbol Amigos set up five-a-side football games all over the city that anyone can take part in and enjoy a cerveza afterwards. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Had a few games with these guys. It's a mixture of people from all round the world. Everyone is really friendly. If you enjoy your football get along to a game!”

4. El Ateneo Grand Splendid

Once a theatre, El Ateneo Grand Splendid is now a book and music store. The cinema seating was removed and in its place book shelves were installed. Customers can dip into the still-intact theatre boxes to have a quick read before purchasing and there is a café at the back of what was once the stage. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Fascinating and jaw droppingly beautiful. This bookstore was our first port of call in Buenos Aires and it did not disappoint.”

5. Teatro Ciego

This theatre offers a combination of tactile dining and intense experiences of senses other than sight. Visitors will enjoy a singing show and dinner in complete darkness. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “This show is amazing, it takes you places you've never been before...really cool.”

6. Recoleta

This fashionable, upscale neighbourhood is lined with cafes, boutiques and galleries and transforms into a street fair on weekends. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Beautiful area to walk and browse the tastes of the city. This is a must for anyone with a free afternoon.”

7. Paseo del Rosedal

This rose garden is located within the Bosques de Palermo, one of the biggest parks in Buenos Aires. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “I was here when the roses were in perfect bloom. The smell was overwhelming!”

8. Puerto Madero

Aharbour lined with bars and restaurants and representing the newest architectural trends of Buenos Aires. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Really loved Puerto Madero! There are so many restaurants in one place, it was tough to pick one. A great place to have a nice walk along the water.”

9. Coleccion de Arte Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat

Opened in 2008, this art gallery is part of Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat's private collection and shows one of the most important permanent exhibits of Argentine art. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Worth the trip just for the building but an outstanding collection of Argentinian art and well laid out.”

10. Funcdacion Proa

One of the city’s most celebrated art galleries and cultural centers, the Fundacion Proa is a modern space that houses temporary art exhibitions. As one TripAdvisor traveller commented, “Always has the best cutting edge art shows. And, the cafeteria is a great place to finish the visit, with a great view of el Riachuelo.”
