UNTOLD festival: the magical experience in the enchanted heart of Transylvania

In 2020, the sixth edition will take place from 30 July–2 August.

Transylvania, the place that Dracula put a spell on, has been, for the past five years, the host of UNTOLD, one of the most popular music festivals in the world. For four days in summer (at the beginning of August), the city of Cluj-Napoca, located in the heart of Transylvania, turns into the world’s capital of night and magic. And the experience is unforgettable for everyone, including the guest artists. And that’s a fact!

Before its fifth edition in 2019, UNTOLD was named the eighth top festival in the world in 2019 (out of 50), according to a vote led by the international publication DJ Mag, that releases an annual list of 'Top 100 DJs'. The result is partly based on the vote given by their top 100 DJs in the world. With its magical experience, the Romanian-based festival managed to upstage extremely well-known festivals like Coachella, Burning Man, Sziget and Mysteryland.

The first UNTOLD edition won 'Best Major Festival' at the 2015 European Festival Awards. Such a thing had never happened before in the history of the competition.

A is for A-listers

At its last edition, almost 380,000 people danced together at all 10 stages built for this amazing music experience. All stages hosted around 300 artists including Robbie Williams, Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, 3 Are Legend, Tinie Tempah, Busta Rhymes, Tove Lo and Morcheeba. The main stage, with its incredible set-up, told the mysterious story of a book spirit. Actually, every stage had its own symbol that was flawlessly executed and thought-out by the organisers.

Robbie Williams was this year’s surprise guest. For an hour and a half, the artist elevated the crowd with his hits. The production was mind-blowing, with dozens of instrumentalists, dancers, backing vocals and costumes. The highlight of his performance was the moment he invited his father on stage and they performed together. Deeply impressed by the crowd, Robbie kneeled on stage while thanking his UNTOLD fans for their amazing energy.

Since the first edition, Armin van Buuren has been the most popular artist of UNTOLD. He hasn't missed one edition in the past five years. Touched by previous experience, he was more than excited to come back in 2019 and give an epic performance. He opened his show accompanied by a special guest—the National Opera Orchestra from Cluj-Napoca. Their performance of the Romanian national anthem gave chills to everyone there, no matter their nationality.

Putting quality first

In 2019, UNTOLD became the first music festival in the world to live-stream its guest artists’ performances in a 4K Ultra HD HDR (High Dynamic Range) production, by using the special 50-shots-per-second filming technique. The images broadcasted had an impeccable clarity, giving the audience a cinema experience, specific to the one used by film production companies. A similar production will be used in 2020 in Tokyo for live broadcasting of the Summer Olympic Games. The organisers have already promised another surprise guest artist at its 2020 edition.

The festival has already earned its worldwide renown and is opening its arms to all festival music lovers from all over the world to join the magical experience of UNTOLD.
