Grab yourself some tax-free goodies at duty-free!

Being trapped at the airport for a few hours may sound like a total drag but it could benefit your Christmas shopping.

Put your spare port time to good use - hit the duty-free to get your loved ones (or yourself, we aren’t judging) a gift.

What is duty-free?

Simply put, when you make purchases here in the UK you’re also paying a 20% VAT.  VAT accurate as of 23/10/2015

Duty-free is the removal of VAT from certain items (such as cosmetics or sunglasses), thus making them cheaper.

If you're flying within the UK or EU then WorldDutyFree accounts for the VAT that should be going to HM Revenue & Customs. This also means that there isn’t really a limit as to how much you can take, as long as it’s for personal use.

There are different reasons depending on where you’re flying. If you’re traveling outside of the EU, there’s no tax applicable to Customs.

This makes the designer brands and fancier things you love significantly cheaper!

TL;DR Duty-free makes almost everything cheaper for everyone, no matter where you’re traveling to/from.

What kind of things can you buy?

There is a whole host of items available to get at duty-free.

Alcohol, tobacco, fragrance, skincare, cosmetics, sunglasses, watches, jewellery and handbags are just some of the items included.

So next time you’re going through the least fun part of traveling, cheer yourself up with a spot of retail therapy.
